Alessia's ROCE
“ROCE” is a traditional ceremony held couple of days prior to the Mangalorean Catholic Wedding, a ritual of hot water bath taken with anointing of oil and application of coconut milk on the bride/groom at their respective homes. 'ROCE' is a Konkani word that symbolizes purity, just like the white milky fluid that flows out, while grinding a coconut. This ceremony marks the beginning of wedding celebrations and signifies the last bath that the bride or the groom will be taking in their bachelorhood/spinsterhood.
We had an opportunity to shoot the ROCE ceremony of Ms. Alessia in Bengaluru. The decorations at the venue were done to give a traditional Managalorean look 🙂
After the prayers, the Roce ceromony began. Coconut milk was applied on the bride right from the crown of her head to the sole of her feet, while chanting some short verses known as vovyo's in konkani.
The ceremony was followed by a DJ/Dance, the couple had a lot of fun with friends and family 🙂
